  1. Because of neural adaptations: strength training leads to neural adaptations which improve motor unit recruitment and coordination. Practically, this means that our brain become more efficient in managing muscle contraction, which leads to increased strength without significant muscle growth during the first weeks of training
  2. Skills improve: practice makes perfect, right? If you repeat certain motions, your proficiency and technique improve, as you learn to do the movements more efficiently every time. This leads to a better activation of the muscles that you want to contract and more fluid movements.

Your body becomes better at recruiting a higher percentage of muscle fibers within a muscle group, and this increased activation can lead to improved strength, coordination, and efficiency.
